CSCI Unison survey published regarding methodology and workload issues

29 July 2008, 7:47pm

Unison has published a survey of members at CSCI regarding their views about the impact of the 'Inspection for Better Lives' (IBL) methodology, and subsequent staff reductions.

Over 100 unison members responded to our survey about the implementation  of the IBL methodology, and the impact of recent staff reductions.

Most feel they  find it more difficult to carry out their work within their working hours. Most state their ability to complete their work has got worse since the implementation of the new methodologies, working practices and job reductions. As a consequence respondents feel they are suffering from more stress. The majority feel the service we provide, as a commission, has got worse since the implementation of the changes.

We have since had a positive meeting with Mike Rourke (Director-Inspection, Regulation and Review-CSCI). Mike listened carefully and constructively to our concerns. He said one of the answers to improving poor care services was for the Commission to take more enforcement action. The Commission has subsequently invested heavily in this area. He also provided constructive proposals to improve the working lives of staff - see separate news item.
