Pay Claim 2007/08

With the 2006/7 pay award now agreed, we need to think ahead to the claim for September 2007. Members need to support the negotiators with views and ideas.

Negotiations this year will once again take place in a tough environment dictated by Government policy to seek to limit cost-of living increases in the public sector to 2%. In CSCI 83% of employees got a 3% progression increase in September 06 - the numbers getting this in September 07 will be fewer as more people will have reached the top of the grade. Progression increases have to be included in the overall pay remit CSCI seeks from the Department of Health.

Members are asked to give feedback on whether they support a claim for a cost-of-living increase which is

a) a percentage increase only across all scales

b) a flat rate increase

c) a combination of a flat rate and a percentage increase whichever is the higher.

Please also give an indication of how much you think we should be asking for in terms of the above.

Members are also asked to consider which conditions of service we should be seeking improvements to as part of the claim.

Do you think it would be advantageous to consider a two year pay deal to see out the life of the Commission?
